The NVIDIA drivers are not installing linux-headers-generic causing
missing kernel module and failed startup. Installing linux-headers-
generic and doing one of the following commands fixes the problem as
noted here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=12303179&postcount=4

*sudo dpkg-reconfigure nvidia-current 
*sudo dpkg-reconfigure nvidia-current-updates 
*sudo dpkg-reconfigure nvidia-experimental-304
