That is a bit strange, as I don't see any fixes directly related to this
issue between the 0.6 and 0.6.1 alpha build. Are you sure that it works
every time?

  Modem Huawei E173 works in 12.04 but not work in 12.10.
  
  Otherwise, the modem itself is recognized by the modem-manager but fails
  to connect to Internet.
