I tried the "sleep 2" trick, and it seems much more stable now (haven't
had a single hick-up yet). Doesn't seem like a real solution though.

On another note - I don't see the plymouth screen (not on boot and not
on shut-down). On boot-up, I only see a console log-in prompt, and on
shut-down I see the textual shut-down log.
