Public bug reported: Hello, I have found an issue that appears to be in the kernel. I have a Dell Studio 1569 and I am running Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS. The problems arise at system shutdown. I have attempted numberous searches and different methods of fixing the bug.
When I attempt to shutdown my laptop, everything seems to go fine until "Will now Halt." (in the case of shutting down) or "Will now restart." (in the case of restarting). The system just hangs at this point and does not power off. If you wait approximately 22s, the kernel starts complaining about a soft lockup. I have tried shutting down from the menu, terminal, as root, etc and even changing runlevels to initiate a shutdown. I am using Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS Desktop.
