Public bug reported:

what happened:
after disconnecting an hdmi cable from my computer, there was no audio from my
computer.

pulseaudio had crashed.
i noticed this by opening the sound settings dialog and clicking the "test
sound" button: nothing happened, no dialog popped up.

subsequently, i did a:
  ps aux | grep pulseaudio

and killed the pid of the pulseaudio server (SIGTERM).
then i started the server again with the same command that the process i killed
obviously used:
/usr/bin/pulseaudio --start --log-target=syslog

problem worked-around.
