Tested on 12.10: Same behaviour. (Battery status stays "charged" after
removing charging power.)

Discovered a work-around to get the is to unplug from charge for a
second or two, then plug in again for a second and then unplug it again
before the battery status has returned to fully charged.

I also found that suspending and waking the computer also gets the
battery indicator working again.
