Hello dose current OS on you computer still work. Did you live usb
crash effet them?
My laptop crash when I took ubuntu 12.10 for A live test.
It place garbage in the bios, or uefi, or video driver so
that my curent 12.04 would not run.
My laptop is still under warrety and had it sent off
for repairs. They changed out the mother board.
Ten days later i had it back
and runs fine. That live usb i put mint 13 on it, and works fine.
The install of mint 13 to the hard drive went ok.

I had Mint 13 working on the 8 gibbytes SSD that was built
into the mother board befor the crash. So i lost this OS
when the repair man swaped out the mother board.

I AM SCARED TO TRY PUT 12.10 ON MY LAPTOE AGAIN!

I hope when mint 14 come out they will remove that problem, but
thery are good at copying ubuntu bugs.

I might try ubuntu again if i here when they fix this problem
by not touching the current setting or have some kind of
app to reinstall defualt settings.
