Public bug reported: The description for the package "linux-image-extra-3.5.0-17-generic (3.5.0-17.28)" is "Linux kernel image for version 3.5.0 on 64 bit x86 SMP".
The package in question does not contain a kernel image--it only contains kernel modules. Thus the current description is incorrect and misleading. As described in http://askubuntu.com/questions/153023/what-is-the-linux- image-extra-package-for-and-do-i-need-it#153033 and http://ubuntu.5.n6.nabble.com/PATCH-0-2-linux-image-extra-support- td365008.html this package (and equivalent -virtual packages) contains "extra" modules not included with the main kernel image. The package description should therefore be something like "extra kernel modules not included the main kernel image package" or similar. This avoids misleading people into thinking it will replace their current kernel. This description bug applies to all releases/versions. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1076349 Title: Description of " linux-image-extra" packages is incorrect To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1076349/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
