I wrote a glib patch which can be seen as an alternative fix of this bug, and would replace the proposed changes to indicator-datetime. The glib patch is attached to https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=687945 Please note, though, that the glib patch is not effective as regards names of days and months in the indicator-datetime calendar.
