Does the behavior still occur on modern versions of Ubuntu and/or modern
kernels? It's much more likely your mobo reserving space for hardware
addressing or a kernel bug. If 'free' command reports the same, then
this bug should be assigned to a different package.
Marking Incomplete until someone confirms it's still an issue and
confirms what free command reports.
