I got somewhat further. this .background-cache.png is used from /etc/grub.d/05_debian_theme . This uses /usr/share/images/desktop-base/desktop-grub.png
which does not exist on all of my machines, but on that particular one, and contains the debian background. This file points to /etc/alternatives/desktop-grub, which points to /usr/share/images/desktop-base/spacefun-grub.png, which is part of the package desktop-base. This package does not exist on my other machines. No idea why this was installed on my new notebook, but the new notebook was the only one where I used 12.04.01 to install ubuntu. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1080865 Title: Debian instead of Ubuntu grub splash To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1080865/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
