As expected this bug also impacts Mint, beginning with Mint 10 and on
and on and on. Nine worked.
Just in case it might help, when using an external monitor, opening a
video file in most players or video editors will turn on the laptop back
light. Opening the app does nothing, but the app opening the file will
turn on the backlight. Oddly, using the movie player included with the
Mint distribution will not.
