Hello Joseph, I am having the same exact problem with Precise 12.10.1 the one you downloaded from www.ubuntu.com. When I found that I had the problem with Precise, I downloaded Raring's daily ISO to see if the problem was still there, and so it was. I have not tried out any other versions up to now, only Precise 12.10.1 and Raring's 29/11/2012 daily.
