I have applied and successfully tested Philipp Kern's patch for the segfault issue (http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=690330). Attached you'll find a debdiff for testing for precise as patch "ubuntu15" (current precise patchlevel "ubuntu14").
