Hibernation works for me on a Latitude E6420 in Ubuntu 12.10.
$ uname -r
3.5.0-18-generic

$ grep swap /etc/fstab
UUID=ba9d1a0f-41d2-497f-b78e-d99f3e1572df none swap sw 0 0

I had to create the following file (it was missing)
$cat /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume
RESUME=UUID=ba9d1a0f-41d2-497f-b78e-d99f3e1572df

Before I created /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume, it would hibernate,
but on 'resume', it would just boot as usual ignoring the resume file.
