Ubuntu does not support PPA versions, so this is not a bug in Ubuntu. That said, as the maintainer of ppa:git-core/ppa, I’m interested in what went wrong. It should be the case that bash_completion automatically sources everything in the /etc/bash_completion.d directory, including /etc/bash_completion.d/git-prompt. Can you attach your ~/.bashrc?
