Temporary (ugly) workaround: run pdftops and then ps2pdf on all PDFs
exported by OpenOffice.org. This typically reduces the file size by
more than an order of magnitude (eg. 600K to 30K)

pdffonts output of OpenOffice.org PDF:
name type emb sub uni object ID
------------------------------------ ------------ --- --- --- ---------
NimbusSanL-Bold Type 1 yes no yes 34 0
NimbusRomNo9L-ReguItal Type 1 yes no yes 19 0
NimbusRomNo9L-Regu Type 1 yes no yes 14 0
NimbusRomNo9L-MediItal Type 1 yes no yes 29 0

NimbusSanL-Regu Type 1 yes no yes 9 0
