The driver version shouldn't be the only reason, 12.11 is actually the latest version available and still it works here. Also Unity shouldn't be the only reason, since Greg has the bug using KDE. I would rather suspect that the problem is in the "ubuntufied" version of the driver from Ubuntu's repos.
