Public bug reported: I'm working with the version that's currently in precise.
I notice that a lot of keys are mapped out to values >255. It seems the kernel knows how to handle these, but X11 can't. Every guide out there referring to getting a remote setup using ir-keytable first tells you to go and remap KEY_OK, and KEY_EXIT and basically go write your own keymap. What do you think about carrying a distro patch in Debian & Ubuntu that remaps these keymaps to stuff <255 until X11 actually gains support for these keys? I think it would help make setting up an infrared remote without lirc far easier (just install the ir-keytable package and it should just work with most your applications). I'm happy to help write this patch if you would be open to accepting it to use until X11 sorts things out. ** Affects: v4l-utils (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1095725 Title: default keymaps for ir-keytable aren't useful To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/v4l-utils/+bug/1095725/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
