just another bit of info...even though the previous comments really cover the problem pretty well...i have same problem and i don't think it hardware related...i installed ubuntu 12.04.1 about one month ago and find it can freeze up at random times and it happens both when you are using the system or when it is just there sitting idel...it is almost as though ubuntu is checking for updates or something like that...
my system locks up to where no mouse or keyboard will wake it up, not even a quick push of the powere button. i have to hold down the power button for several seconds till the system powers off and then power back up to get ubuntu runing again. just for grins and giggles i installed ubuntu 12.04.1.LTS on an older HP DESKTOP using an Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.2 GHzX2 with 2 GB of memory and 155.4 GB of disk space...the OS TYPE is 32 BIT! I love it when i runs...however it will freeze in maybe a day or make it 5 days before freezing...i thought it was the HP monitor or mouse with the roller so i switched them out and the problem still happens... hope this helps nail down the problem...keep up the good work...we really do appreciate it... jerry -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/993187 Title: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
