Please focus on one issue per bug report (and USE LESS CAPS). Ubuntu 10.04 probably needs a much newer kernel to get Realtek ALC892 working, so we'll focus on Ubuntu 12.10. It seems like everything is working correctly there except Totem crashing. Please start totem from the terminal, crash it, and attach the output.
Note that your poor resolution is probably due to having fglrx/Catalyst driver still installed from Ubuntu 12.04 and the version in Ubuntu 12.10 doesn't support your GPU ( bug 1058040 ).
