So it is the infamous PL3507. These are sold with bugs in various flavours. I don't know about a particular solution for an early failure like this "Error parsing configrom".
If you have access to a Windows PC, try update the PL3507's firmware. (Prolific's firmware uploader runs under Windows.) Not all PL3507 revisions can be updated. Some revisions need to be updated in two steps. http://www.prolific.com.tw/eng/downloads.asp?ID=44 Other things to try: - Unload all IEEE 1394 driver modules. (Use "lsmod" to list loaded modules and their dependencies, "modprobe -r modulename" to unload modules.) Connect the device. Load the host adapter driver. ("modprobe ohci1394".) - Install gscanbus or 1394commander and use them to reset the FireWire bus while the CD-RW is connected. -- /dev/scd0, often, doesn't come up https://launchpad.net/bugs/33039 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
