This looks promising. I have upgraded from 12.04 to Quantal. Before my configuration was working with no external monitor and now it doesn't work anymore.
I noticed that the Xorg.conf file should actually be xorg.conf file. Which maybe means I was not using it before the upgrade. At least I can confirm than before I had a screen on my headless Precise and not I don't (again no monitor/screen is physically attached to it).
