This bug still exists in the latest version 12.10 I want to use ubuntu as main OS but i can't with this issue. I have tested many linux distros (ubuntu, fedora, opensuse, mint,sabayon) but the bug exists in all of them. Recently i found that pc-bsd distro (and other bsd distros) can suspend and resume the laptop using "acpiconf -s 3" from the terminal. I don't know why this happens but i hope somehow this info can help you to find the solution
