Weird. No apparent errors there either. I have no idea what could be
causing this.

You could try running 'sudo apt-get dist-upgrade' as it's better at
handling dependency errors. But be careful, it can delete/install
packages so make sure nothing important gets deleted. If you see a long
list of packages being deleted or installed, you should abort the
procedure just to stay on the safe side.
