Public bug reported: Users can manually specify Compiz outputs using ccsm. For example, I combine four displays into one large virtual display, which causes windows to maximize across all four of them. Similarly, the drag- window-to-the-side-of-the-screen behavior works as expected, resizing the window to occupy half of the virtual display.
In short, window management respects my custom geometry. Unity panel's placement does not respect my custom geometry. Instead of rendering once at the top of my manually-specified large virtual display, it individually occurs on each physical display. The result, pictured in the attached screenshot, is that a maximized window has two unity panels along its top edge, and two more cutting it in half across the middle of the window.
