Just grabbed another scanner. autosuspend issues do not seem to affect the CanoScan LiDE 60: Bus 005 Device 006: ID 04a9:221c Canon, Inc.
So I guess my original idea of blacklisting all CanoScans would be unwise... What devices are worth testing at the moment?
