When I tried to execute your command chromium was using >100% CPU and was unresponsive. It seems that Chromium consumes a lot of CPU too.
But even with no Application running other than Gnome-Terminal Xorg takes up to 10% CPU when I move my mouse. Now while I'm writing this chromium is running fine but sometimes it just slows everything down.
