I no longer have this problem! It was fixed for me at the same time as https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.20/+bug/41301 For me it just may have been that the above bug caused this one for me. I havn't had the freeze-ups (tm) in a week!
