I'm actually encountering this problem even though I'm not using a
laptop. I'm using an eMachines T614 desktop system with a PS/2 connected
Logitech trackball. After a fresh boot, everything works fine. Then,
at some point applications, like Firefox or Thunderbird or Empathy stop
responding to mouse clicks. I can navigate these applications with the
keyboard ok.

What's odd is, the Unity launcher DOES respond to mouse clicks and I can
click the power button to logout or reboot the system. I just can't
click in an application. I also can't minimize or maximize the
application window and I must use Alt-Tab to switch between
applications. If I reboot the system, everything goes back to normal.

I've booted my system 4 times so far today because of this.

What information should I gather to help troubleshoot this?

Thanks!
