Public bug reported:

indicator-sound 12.10.1-0ubuntu1, Ubuntu 12.10

1. With at least one controllable music player installed, open the sound
menu.

What you see:

* The Play/Pause button appears to be some non-zero distance, X, closer
to you than the menu. You can tell this by looking at the top or bottom
of the Play/Pause button.

* The Back and Forward buttons appear to be the same distance, X, closer
to you than the menu. You can tell this by looking at the top or bottom
of those buttons.

* The Play/Pause button appears to be the same distance, X, closer to
you than the Back and Forward buttons. You can tell this by looking at
the left or right sides of the Play/Pause button.

So X > 0, but X + X = X. This is impossible. You are looking at an
optical illusion.

What you should see: either
* the Play/Pause button is as close to you as the Back and Forward buttons, in
which case it isn't sticking above them; or
* the Play/Pause button is closer to you than the Back and Forward buttons, in
which case the relief at the top and bottom is thicker than at the left and
right.

** Affects: indicator-sound (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
