Just had this with 3.2.0-37-generic #58-Ubuntu SMP Thu Jan 24 15:28:10 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux.
I have rare random lock-ups as well. (Mouse and keyboard unresponsive, screen frozen, system is fine after a hard reset and reboot.) No idea how to reproduce that, seems unrelated to CPU load, screensaver active or not, 3D active or not. Kernel is tainted with the NVidia driver though.
