the database is corrupted, either from a corrupted file or from trying
to mix two different versions of BDB (e.g. downloaded from two different
sources, like ppa:bitcoin and the Ubuntu archive). You can't mix the
ppa:bitcoin package with the package from the Ubuntu archives, they use
different BDB libraries and can corrupt the blockchain. Version 0.8 gets
rid of BDB (except for the wallet). Make sure you keep back ups of your
wallet. They can only be opened with a version of bitcoin compiled for
the version of BDB that your wallet was made with.
