I am also affected by this bug. Every time I start a USB web cam Kaffiene stops with a message box "Read error from".
Press the button and it can be restarted, with both working ..... I have been putting up for it for a good while, possibly since Kubuntu 11.04. Currently on 12.10 normal release.
