I uninstalled and reinstalled alsa-utils in the following way:

sudo apt-get remove alsa-utils
sudo apt-get install alsa-utils
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop

The ALSA script now gives:
http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=d4d83ac9a1302e5e5f5c50390c2dce9ad37b5e56

And the headphone jack is now working :/ with the unfortunate side
effect of breaking shockwave. (Now no youtube)
