It seems that *this* problem is not there anymore, at least it now tries to burn the CD.
However, it now complains that it cannot lock the drive. I guess that should be a different bugreport, but FWIW, here is what it prints on the console: gnome-mount 0.6 Device /dev/hdc is in /etc/fstab with mount point "/dvd" Ejected /dev/hdc (using /etc/fstab).
