Running "sudo swapoff -a" in the live session then starting the installer worked.
My system has a 60GB SSD for / and 2x1TB for /home in mdadm RAID 1. I had formatted the 60GB SSD entirely and unplugged my two HDDs for /home but even still, it kept failing to get past the screen where it asks me if I want to install codecs and download updates. The only partitions that were on the 60GB SSD was 8GB for swap and 20GB EXT4. That was it.
