I have same problem. (L)ubuntu 11.10. 32bit. Using estonian layout - cant too letters like ÕõÄäÖöÜü in remote desktop. Switches automaticaly to US layout, altough "Keyboard Layout Switcher" showing that estonian layout is selected.
