Thanks for testing, Toby.  So one way around this bug would be to run
the LTS backport kernel on 12.04.

However, I'd also like to see if this bug is already resolved in the
latest upstream v3.2 stable kernel.  Can folks affected by this bug test
the following kernel:

v3.2.40: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.2.40-precise/

If the bug still exists in 3.2.40, we can then perform a reverse bisect
to identify the commit that fixes this bug in the 3.5 kernel.
