I ran into the same problem today; the trackpoint and the related keys for left, middle and right click between keyboard and touchpad were not working anymore after a cold boot on my Thinkpad X230 running Kernel 3.5.0-26-generic on Ubuntu 12.10-amd64.
This is the first time this error occurs, rebooting again fixed the problem. I will try the mainline kernel and see if this problem occurs again.
