Here's what I saw using the latest kernel (3.9.0-030900rc3-generic):

If I did not suspend while using the computer, it shut down normally.

If I suspended, then shut down, the computer never powered off.  It hung
at the screen that has the Ubuntu logo and the white/orange dots.  I
waited several minutes.  Finally I held down the power button to turn
the computer off, and then it turned on one time by itself.
