Unfortunately in the meantime I has a filesystem corruption and had to reinstall, so I no longer have this setup. However, I can confirm that the behavior persists in feisty (needing those files to be copied into the /etc/acpi places as indicated by the driver website). I think this is a bug in acpi-support, not the kernel, because the handler script is missing. In gutsy's kernel, this is fixed entirely when using the latest pcc-acpi driver version, 0.9, which no longer requires the handler script.
