Craig, I have also tried using the "Only use the VPN connection for these addresses" option to prevent all traffic from being routed over the VPN connection.
>From the output of routes I can tell that it has created a route solely for the destination at the other end of the tunnel, but I am still having my internet connection interrupted whenever I connect to the VPN.
