Does not work for me. I added -proposed to repositories. i had previously removed all trace of virtual box.
I then did sudo apt-get update Then I did sudo apt-get install virtualbox/precise-propsed VB then appeared to come up at all. I tried importing a VB machine that runs fine on 5 other machines here (but under U 10.04). No go - it didn't like the extension pack. So I tried the other available one at Oracle. Now, partway through booting up windows, it simply crashes Ubuntu - hard crash, back to bios. Whatever this fix is, maybe I'm missing something, but crashing is WORSE than merely tossing an error and refusing to run. At least it's a first - 10.04 hasn't crashed in 6-7 machines ever...in all those years of daily use.
