In my case it did not help to re-install any openjdk-7-* packages. Running ICEDTEAPLUGIN_DEBUG=true firefox 2>&1 showed ... "/usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk-amd64/jre/bin/java" (Access Denied) ...
