Hi David,
as you suggested to me in the past, I tried the last drivers, but without
success.
Yesterday I compiled 3.8.8 and tried hda-jack-retask, but without succes: maybe
here I'm doing something wrong.

What I did was: download it, make localmodconfig (put in this folder my distro
confing file before)
make menuconfig (here I don't know whether I should make some changes)
make;
as root
make modules_install
make install
reboot

As regards vendor-specific and EAPD, they were suggested to me by
Takashi Iwai, who pointed out it should be a problem regarding how the
BIOS sets the mic pins.

Also, I found this interesting in the realtek patch
SND_PCI_QUIRK(0x106b, 0x3400, "MacBookAir 1,1", ALC889_FIXUP_MBP_VREF),
but I think it only fixes sound output, not input.

As regards the last point, can you give me some hints on what to do and
how?

Also, I'm not sure what one can change: just the codec used, or also these can
be changed
Vendor Id: 0x10ec0885
Subsystem Id: 0x106b3400
Revision Id: 0x100103?

Here is another post with some details regarding my problem (more or
less the same data as here.)

Thanks and best,
Nicolo'
