Thanks Tim! So it looks like nouveau fails to work for you but from the
log it appears to be starting up correctly. A few questions.. Can you
switch VTs successfully when it fails? If so, does sudo service lightdm
stop then sudo service lightdm start correct it? Do you see a mouse
pointer or is it completely black after booting? Does raising the
backlight bring it up? Is it possible you could attach the
/var/log/Xorg.0.log{,.old} from the failed boot, or does it not even
write one out?
