I, also, have the same problem dating back to older Ubuntu releases. Now, I'm on 13.04 since BETA release with all the updates, so I should have all the latest patches ...
But still no results from music lens, I keep all my files into home in the music folder. My home is on a separate partition if that can help people debug .. ;) I have sub folders a lot ... I like my music folder to be organized, but does it cost me the fact that no results are displayed in music lens .. ? I have to wait to be online, and after like 5 minutes or so I've discovered that Unity can search, but this is a problem since new users will try to search their music sometimes when they are not online or immediately after login success ?! ... Have anybody thought about that in the developpement release process ..
