Thanks a lot for your help Nick...I followed the instructions in the first mail but then I lost track of what to do after rebooting. The preference file in etc folder was already there and the next command for upgradable packages did not work.So, that is exactly where I lost track of it.And I did not understand what the second mail was about.Do you want me to run them in the terminal?I did try but if you could just tell me what commands I gotta run, it will be very helpful.
