This happens to me also. I only notice it when installing a new system, since I don't use Unity otherwise. I just saw it in 13.04:
I don't use network-manager, in fact I've uninstalled it. I've configured static networks for 3 ethernet cards in /etc/network/interfaces Running "sudo restart networking" now causes the problem. It doesn't kill the Unity session, but terminates all the running programs and makes it unusable. All I can do after that is switch to a terminal with ctr-alt-F1 and reboot. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1066374 Title: "/etc/init.d/networking restart" causes unity to crash (12.10 beta) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1066374/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
